CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte placed four players in double figures as the 49ers wore down UNC Asheville in the second half and downed the Bulldogs, 77-56 before a crowd of 4,017 fans at Halton Arena Sunday night.

An injury-riddled Asheville (1-7) squad was led by Jaron Lane as he tied a career-high in points with 23. Sam Hughes added 13 points, while Andrew Rowsey finished with 12 points.

Charlotte (6-1) was led by Shawn Lester with 14 points, while Denzel Ingram chipped in 14 points. Willie Clayton pumped in 12 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

“We fought hard and battled, but Charlotte wore us down in the second half with its strength and size,” commented Asheville coach Nick McDevitt. “We were within striking distance midway through the second half before they went on a pretty good run.”

Asheville played its third game without senior center D.J. Cunningham. Cunningham is the Bulldogs leading rebounder (9.2) and third leading scorer (13.0). He is out with a knee injury and will be out for the next few weeks.

The Bulldogs will finally get a chance to play a home game on Dec. 12 when they host Bluefield at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m.
