ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville placed three players in double figures as the Bulldogs won their fifth straight game with a dominating 80-41 victory over visiting Montreat College Tuesday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.


The Bulldogs (6-7) were led by their freshmen guards as both Andrew Rowsey and David Robertson finished with 14 points each. Corey Littlejohn added 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench.


The game counted as an exhibition contest for the Cavaliers. They were led by La’Bris Adams with a game-high 19 points.


Asheville’s defense limited Montreat to just 11 field goals for the game as the visitors shot just .216 (11-of-51) from the field. The Bulldogs had a huge height advantage and outscored the Cavaliers, 40-8 in the paint.


Asheville blocked a season-high 13 shots as senior center D.J. Cunningham blocked six Montreat field goal attempts.


“We played good defense today against a Montreat team that’s scored a lot of points this season,” stated Bulldog coach Nick McDevitt. “I’m glad we got a chance to play a lot of players today. Now we turn our attention to a very good Ohio University team on Saturday.”


The Bulldogs trailed early 10-8 before turning up the defense and taking control of the game. Asheville outscored the Cavaliers, 26-4 over a nine-minute stretch to grab a 34-14 lead. Littlejohn led the run with all 12 of his points during the run. Rowsey knocked down two treys, as well.


Asheville led 45-20 at halftime as the Bulldogs outscored the Cavaliers, 25-4 on points in the paint.


The home team substituted freely in the final five minutes of the opening half and throughout the second half.


Montreat shot just 6-of-28 from the field in the first half and 5-of-23 in the second half.


The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Cavaliers, 46-34. Jaleel Roberts, Littlejohn and Cunningham led Asheville with seven rebounds each.


UNC Asheville hosts Mid-American Conference power Ohio University at Kimmel Arena Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. After that game, the Bulldogs open Big South Conference play at Gardner-Webb on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 7 p.m.
