CHARLOTTE, N.C. ( – The seedings and pairings for next week’s Big South Conference Men’s Basketball Championship have been determined following the conclusion of the Conference’s regular-season schedule this afternoon.  A tiebreaker was needed to award the No. 2, 3 and 4 seeds in the South Division, as UNC Asheville, Gardner-Webb and Winthrop tied for second-place at 10-6 in the League standings. 


Asheville garnered the No. 2 South seed as the Bulldogs finished 3-1 against both GWU and WU.  With the three-way tie reduced to a two-way tie between Gardner-Webb and Winthrop, the Runnin’ Bulldogs’ season sweep of the Eagles clinched GWU the No. 3 South seed and moving WU to No. 4.


The Championship will begin Wednesday, March 5 with four first round games.  No. 4 South seed Winthrop will play No. 5 North seed and defending champion Liberty at 12:00pm, while No. 3 North seed Radford meets No. 6 South seed Presbyterian College at 2:00pm.  In the evening session, No. 4 North seed Campbell will play No. 5 South seed Charleston Southern at 6:00pm, with No. 3 South seed Gardner-Webb facing No. 6 North seed Longwood at 8:00pm.  Wednesday’s winners will advance to Friday’s quarterfinal round.


High Point (16-13, 12-4 Big South) is the No. 1 North seed after winning the outright North Division championship for the second consecutive year.  The Panthers will open against the winner of Winthrop-Liberty on March 7 at 12:00pm.  Championship host Coastal Carolina (18-12, 11-5 Big South) is the No. 1 South seed after winning the outright South Division crown -- the Chanticleers’ first division title.  The Chanticleers will open against the winner of Campbell-Charleston Southern at 6:00pm on March 7. 


No. 2 South seed UNC Asheville begins its postseason against the winner of Radford-Presbyterian College Friday at 2:00pm.  VMI is the No. 2 North seed for the second-straight year and plays the winner of Gardner-Webb-Longwood Friday night at 8:00pm.


High Point’s 12-4 record in League play clinched the outright regular-season championship and overall No. 1 seed to secure the Big South’s automatic bid to the NIT should the Panthers not win the Conference Tournament.


All games will be played at The HTC Center on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.  Individual session tickets will go on sale starting Sunday, March 2 by visiting  Beginning Monday, March 3, tickets can be purchased in-person at the Coastal Carolina Athletics Ticket Office in Arcadia Hall beginning at 9:00am, as well as by phone at 843-347-8499.


All four first round games will be broadcast live on The Big South Network presented by State Farm.  The 2014 Big South Men’s Basketball Championship will continue with the quarterfinals on Friday, March 7 and semifinals on Saturday, March 8 with both days being carried on ESPN3 and WatchESPN.  The Championship game will be contested Sunday, March 9 live on ESPN2 at 12:00pm.  The Big South’s Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.  The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
