CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- Waltiea Rolle had 19 points and nine rebounds and No. 25 North Carolina shot 54 percent from the field as the Tar Heels ran past UNC Asheville, 101-42, Sunday afternoon at Carmichael Arena.

With the victory the Tar Heels improve to 6-0 overall, with a 5-0 record at Carmichael, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-4 on the season with a 0-2 mark in road contests.

“We’re a team where we have to focus on the little things in order to win, and we didn’t do that today,” said Asheville head coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. “They were tougher than us, diving for loose balls and outworking us in the paint. We needed to do a better job defensively against a team as good as North Carolina and we didn’t.”

Senior forward Gentry Manley scored a team-high 12 points, with Shonese Jones chipping in 11 to the Bulldogs’ total. Paige Love scored eight points off the bench, however, no other Bulldog scored more than three points on the day.

North Carolina’s Xylina McDaniel finished with 11 points and eight boards in just 14 minutes, while Tierra Ruffin-Pratt just missed a double-double with 10 points and eight assists. Megan Buckland added 17 off the bench for UNC, who will host No. 16 Ohio State Wednesday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.

The Tar Heels began the game on a 15-3 run before Asheville was able to score seven straight to pull to within five at 15-10. But a 10-0 run by the Tar Heels pushed UNC’s advantage to 25-10. UNC outscored the Bulldogs 26-19 over the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 51-29 lead into the break.

Carolina scored the first 17 points of the second half, and added another 17-0 run later in the period to runaway from the Blue & White, who were outscored 50-13 in the final frame.

Asheville will be back in action on Wednesday evening, when the Bulldogs host Big East foe South Florida in a game at Kimmel Arena. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m. between the Bulls and Bulldogs.
