BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's basketball team heads to Campbell on Saturday afternoon to do battle with the Lady Camels in a Big South Conference contest at Gore Arena starting at 4:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs (2-23, 0-14 BSC) fought hard at surging High Point Thursday night before falling 49-35. Asheville trailed 15-11 midway through the first half but outscored the Panthers 8-0 the rest of the way to build a 19-15 lead at intermission. High Point had too much depth and size for the Bulldogs in the second half and earned the win.

Asheville opened Big South play way back on Dec. 1 against Campbell and fell 73-56 at Kimmel Arena. The Lady Camels are 17-8 overall and 9-5 in the Big South, a half-game out of second place.

"Campbell is one of the best coached and hardest working teams in the league and have managed to stay consistent and healthy this year in a tough league," stated first year Bulldog coach Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick. "They have a balanced attack so it is difficult to key in on any one player defensively. We need to continue to play great team defense and step up our offensive game tomorrow to give ourselves an opportunity to win. We are excited about the opportunity to play after a disappointing second half at High Point."

Senior center Kelli Riles earned her 1000th career rebound against High Point on Thursday. She is just the second player in school history to post 1,000 career rebounds. Riles will try to join the 1,000 point club on Saturday. She'll enter the Campbell game with 992 career points.

Freshman guard Paige Love added 11 points for Asheville Thursday night. She has scored in double figures in five of the last seven games.

The Bulldogs return home next weekend for their final two games of the year at Kimmel Arena. Asheville hosts defending Big South champion Liberty Thursday night before celebrating Senior Day against Longwood next Saturday afternoon. Tip-off against Longwood will be at 2 p.m.

BULLDOG NOTES

Kelli Riles had 12 points and 11 rebounds on Thursday at High Point. She now has nine double-doubles on the season.

Campbell leads the all-time series 30-7. The Lady Camels have won the last three meetings. Asheville's last win came two years in Buies Creek when Kendall Shepard hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 79-76 win.

Asheville is looking to snap a 16-game overall losing streak.  The Bulldogs also look to snap a 25-game losing streak in Big South Conference play dating back to last season. The Bulldogs last league win was a 74-62 victory over Gardner-Webb on Jan. 21, 2012.

Seven of Asheville's 14 league losses have been by 10 points or less. Four have been by six points or less.

The Bulldogs are much better defensively this year. Asheville has limited its opponents to just 65.0 points per game, compared to 74.8 points per game last season.
