Galen Broido, a member of the UNC Asheville women’s swimming team, is this week’s recipient of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Athlete of the Week at UNC Asheville.

Each week the school selects a BCBSNC Athlete of the Week upon their performance from the previous week's action.

Broido had a great meet for the Bulldogs at the Highlander Invitational at Radford this past weekend. The sophomore individually earned 79 points for Asheville at the meet, the third highest of anyone at the meet.

She started the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 500 freestyle and only got better as the meet progressed.

Broido earned second-place points in the 400 individual medley with an in-season best time of  4:33.36.

She had a quick turnaround but still finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.31.

On the final day of the invitational on Saturday, Galen earned another second-place finish with an in-season best of 17:18.66 in the mile. She finished the meet with a strong finish of fourth place in the 200 backstroke. Broido also helped earn team points in the 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
