ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s tennis team stayed unbeaten on the young season as the Bulldogs downed Southern Conference foe Wofford, 6-1 in a non-conference match at the Asheville Racquet Club Saturday afternoon.


Asheville (3-0) won the doubles point and then claimed five singles match as the Blue & White enjoyed a win over the Terriers (2-1) for the second straight season.


Asheville got straight set wins from four different players on Saturday. Zoe Hamel won at #1 seed with a victory over Sarah Evans, 6-1, 6-4. Erica Rivero won at #3 singles as she downed Julia Paulson, 6-3, 6-1.


Christina Bossevain downed Kalli Karas at #5 flight, 7-5, 6-2.  Emily McCall got the win at #6 with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Mareli Sanchez, 6-2, 6-4.


The only Bulldog win that went three sets came at #2 singles as Amryn Solider outlasted Audrey Coventry, 5-7, 6-3, 10-7.


In doubles action, the Bulldogs earned the point by winning all three matches. Gillian Lewis and Emily McNall got Asheville’s first wins with a 6-2 victory at #3 doubles. Zoe Hamel and Erica Rivero then downed Sarah Evans and Julia Paulson at #1 to clinch the point.


UNC Asheville travels to Appalachian State on Wednesday afternoon.
