Editors Note: With the 2013-14 school year behind us, UNC Asheville's student-athletes will be providing us write-ups to allow everyone to get to know them a little better. Today we meet women's basketball player, Paige Love.

Paige Love is a rising junior on the UNC Asheville women’s basketball team. Anticipating her graduation in 2016, the talented point guard from North Wilkesboro, NC is majoring in Health and Wellness with a possible minor in Psychology. Her plans after college consist of many options, with Paige hopefully going into coaching after earning her Master’s Degree from a Graduate Assistant position.

Paige decided to join the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at UNC Asheville because she wanted to be involved in making a difference at UNC Asheville and the Big South Conference. In regards to her favorite SAAC memory, Paige said, “Honestly, I feel like the meetings have been more fun and productive this year, so those are my greatest memories so far.” Next year, Paige wants to promote UNC Asheville athletics on campus and reach out to the non-student athlete population through sports. Also, she wants to make a student-athlete event put on only by SAAC. Her creativity will be much appreciated by SAAC this upcoming school year!

Since arriving in Asheville, Paige has done a wonderful job representing UNC Asheville in the community through her active volunteering involvement. This year, she volunteered at several elementary schools in the Asheville area promoting Rocky Readers. Throughout the year, she volunteered at several marathons/triathlons where she registered people for races, handed out t-shirts and race numbers, and handed water and Gatorade to the runners. She recently volunteered time to help with a local special needs kid that reached out to her after one of her basketball games. She has gone to his baseball games and played basketball with him within the last month. Being able to spend time with her new friend has really been an eye-opening and humbling experience for Paige. Needless to say, Paige has been an exemplary Bulldog. She chose UNC Asheville because of the small class size, the basketball program (coaches and players included), the distance from her family (2 hours), Kimmel Arena, and the Health and Wellness Department.

This summer, Paige will be working at a YMCA camp in her hometown, helping young basketball players learn every aspect of the game. When not seeing family and friends, she found time to attend the Big South Leadership Conference, where she connected with fellow Big South student-athletes through other SAAC’s, while significantly increasing her leadership potential. This winter, stay tuned to see if Paige makes it back onto ESPN, where she was shown scoring the game-winning buzzer-beater that won last season’s home opener against Furman University! Stop by Kimmel Arena to see UNC Asheville women’s basketball this upcoming season. It’s safe to say that UNC Asheville is proud to have Paige Love as part of the Bulldog family!
