Homestanding High Point Explodes For 106-58 Over Asheville

The Panthers (15-14, 9-7 BSC) tied a Big South record for made 3-pointers in a game connecting on 18 treys. The record was set earlier this season by Charleston Southern against Asheville on Feb. 19. Cheyenne Parker came off the bench to score 21 points for the Panthers while Amy Dodd added 20 to the High Point total. Parker also had a game-high 16 rebounds to earn the double-double.
Overall five players scored in double figures for the Panthers with the Panthers’ defense recording 14 blocks against Asheville. Senior Mackenzie Maier finished the game with 15 points, nine blocks and eight rebounds for HPU.
The Bulldogs could not get their offense on track after the offensive barrage by HPU, as they shot 29.3 percent from the floor. Lindsey Thompson led the way for the Blue & White with 12 points with teammate Lindsey Montgomery adding 10.
With the loss Asheville drops to 12-17 on the season with a 5-11 mark in conference play. If the Big South Tournament was to begin today the Bulldogs would be the No. 7 seed as they sit a half game back of Winthrop who will play at Charleston Southern tomorrow evening.
The Panthers led the entire way beginning the game on a 25-10 run. The Bulldogs were never able to pull within single digits as they went into halftime trailing 55-27.
The hot shooting for the Panthers continued in the second half as High Point out scored the Bulldogs 29-15 over the first 10 minutes of the frame. Asheville struggled to keep pace with the Panthers, who reached triple digits at the 3:10 mark on a layup by Parker.
The loss for the Bulldogs marks the first time Asheville has allowed 100 points by an opponent all season long.
Asheville will have the week off before starting the Big South Conference Tournament on Friday. The Bulldogs’ opponent will be determined after Monday’s league games.
