ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s basketball team looks to stay unbeaten at home on the young season when the Bulldogs host North Carolina Central Saturday at Kimmel Arena starting at 2 p.m.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast locally on 880-AM with the pre-game show starting at 1:55 p.m. Fans can also watch the game for free on the Big South Digital Network under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (2-2) went to 2-0 at home last Saturday with a thrilling 71-63 victory over Eastern Kentucky before the Bulldogs fell at Western Carolina, 62-51 Wednesday night. Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick’s lead by 14 early in the first half before the Lady Cats rallied for the win.

“We had a great practice in response to Wednesday night's loss to Western Carolina. Our kids understand the highs and lows of investing fully in building a program and I am so proud of our growth process,” stated Kirkpatrick. “North Carolina Central will present yet another challenge for us on Saturday by bringing an aggressive mentality to the court and by challenging us on the boards. We are excited for another opportunity to compete in front of our fans, friends and families.”

Both the Bulldogs and Eagles went 2-28 last year, but both teams are much improved.  N.C. Central (1-2) opened the season with an impressive 55-44 road win at Presbyterian College. Senior guard Jessica Freeman lead the NCCU attack with a 13.0 scoring average.  Junior Racquel Davis has been tough to stop inside as she has an 11.0 scoring average and is grabbing 10.7 rebounds per game.

Junior guard Brittany Gwyn leads Asheville in scoring with a 13.0 average. Sophomore guard Paige Love is next with a 10.0 mark. Freshman KC Weaver grabbed 13 rebounds at Western Carolina Wednesday and tops the club in that category with an 8.0 mark.

The Bulldogs stay at home this Tuesday night when they host Bluefield at Kimmel Arena starting at 7 p.m. Asheville opens Big South Conference play the following Monday (Dec. 2) at Charleston Southern.
