ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s basketball team hits the road Wednesday night as the Bulldogs travel to Big South foe Campbell for a date with the Lady Camels at Gore Arena starting at 7 p.m.

Wednesday’s game can be seen via the Big South Digital Network for free under the multimedia tag at uncabulldogs.com.

Asheville (4-4, 1-0) is looking to put behind a frustrating 67-66 home loss to USC Upstate on Saturday. The Bulldogs led by 13 in the first half but trailed late. Asheville rallied and missed three shots in the final seconds that would have given the Blue & White the victory. Shonese Jones led the Bulldogs with 13 points, 10 in the second half.

Brenda Mock Kirkpatrick’s team faces a stiff challenge in Buies Creek. Campbell is 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play after downing Radford last week, 72-58.

“We will have our biggest challenge of the season at Campbell on Wednesday night. They are a very- disciplined well-coached team that plays hard for 40 minutes and have played consistent basketball this season,” stated Kirkpatrick.

“We are still trying to form our identity and play hard with purpose for 40 minutes. We learned the hard way on Saturday that we have to execute on both ends in order to give ourselves opportunities to win games,” added Kirkpatrick. “If we take advantage of those learning opportunities and get better with each day we can be a very solid team. Wednesday's game will be another huge opportunity for our program because Campbell is one of the most competitive teams we have faced.”

The Bulldogs are being led in scoring by junior guard Brittany Gwyn as she’s averaging 11.6 points per game. Junior guard Shonese Jones has a 10.4 scoring average. Junior forward Jeannie Buckner leads the club in rebounding with a 6.5 mark.

Asheville is looking for its first win at Campbell in Big South Conference play ever. The Bulldogs are 0-11 vs. Campbell in Buies Creek in league play. However, Asheville has won at Campbell in the past. The Bulldogs edged the Lady Camels, 78-75 on a last-second three-pointer by Kendall Shepard in the 2010-11 season. That was Campbell’s final year in the Atlantic Sun.

CU won both meetings last season as the Lady Camels won 73-56 at Kimmel Arena and 64-39 in Buies Creek.

BULLDOG NOTES
