ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s basketball team looks for its third win of the season Wednesday night when the Bulldogs travel to Western Carolina for a showdown with the Catamounts at the Ramsey Center starting at 7 p.m.

Asheville (2-1) matched its win total from all of last season with an impressive 71-63 victory over Eastern Kentucky Saturday night. Brittany Gwyn led the Bulldogs with 17 points, while Paige Love added 16 in the Asheville victory.

The Bulldogs face a Western Carolina (0-3) club that is searching for its first win of the year. However, the Catamounts have lost all three of their games on the road. Wednesday’s game will be WCU’s home opener.

“We have been working on developing consistency in practice and in competition in our process. Each day for us is about being a better version of ourselves than the day before,” stated Kirkpatrick. “Our players have learned a lot in our first three games and we know that we must play well to give ourselves an opportunity against a tough Western team. They have faced great competition in their first three games and will be back on their home court. It will once again take a collective effort to get our first road win. “

Gwyn leads Asheville in scoring with a 14.3 average, while Love is next at 10.7. Freshman Tianna Knuckles is scoring 10.3 points per game. Junior Jeannie Buckner leads Asheville in rebounding with a 6.7 mark.

The Bulldogs are looking to 3-1 for the first time since the 2010-11 season.  Asheville finishes the month of November with home games against North Carolina Central (Nov. 23) and Bluefield (Nov. 26).
