ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Chelsea Coward scored 23 points and collected nine rebounds as Longwood downed UNC Asheville 67-54 in Big South Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Kimmel Arena.


The loss spoiled the Bulldogs' Senior Day. Grace Blaylock led Asheville with a season-high 18 points as she knocked down four 3-pointers. Kelli Riles enjoyed her 10th double-double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds.


Crystal Smith added 18 points for Longwood.


The Bulldogs fell to 2-26 overall and 0-17 in the Big South. It was Asheville's 18th straight loss. The Lancers (10-17, 7-9 BSC) victory ended an eight-game losing streak for the visitors.


Jeannie Bucker tied a career-high in rebounds with 10 for Asheville.  Erin Neal added eight points and eight steals for Longwood. The Lancers forced 27 Bulldog turnovers and out-scored the home team, 24-5 in points off turnovers.


Longwood led 25-21 at intermission but quickly build the lead to 10 points at 37-27 with 15:30 left. Smith tallied six points during the run.


The Lancers kept pushing the lead and built a 60-43 lead when Coraward sank a long 3-pointer with 4:52 left.


Asheville rallied and crept to 64-54 on Bucker's long trey with 1:22 left. But the Bulldogs could not score again as Longwood picked up the road victory.


Both teams struggled to score in the first half. The Lancers shot just .265 (9-of-34) from the field, while the Bulldogs shot .227 (5-of-22). Longwood would lead 25-21 at halftime as Coward and Smith combined for 15 points. Blaylock had eight points for Asheville.


Longwood shot much better in the second half as the Lancers knocked down .533 (16-of-30) of their shots. Asheville improved, as well as the Bulldogs went 12-of-26 for .462.  


Following the game, UNC Asheville honored its three seniors playing its final home game. The Bulldogs honored Grace Blaylock, Gentry Manley and Kelli Riles for their careers. The trio played hard and battled as they combined for 38 points and 25 rebounds.


Asheville out-rebounded Longwood, 43-33.


The Bulldogs finish the regular season when they play at Winthrop next Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. The game will be on ESPN3. Longwood hosts Charleston Southern Thursday night at 7 p.m.
