The Bulldogs (12-17, 5-11 BSC) finished in a tie with Winthrop for the sixth seed but Asheville earned it with a 60-59 victory over Gardner-Webb (20-10, 11-5 BSC) this year, while the Lady Eagles lost both games to the Runnin' Bulldogs.
This will be the second straight year the Bulldogs have faced Gardner-Webb in the quarterfinals. Last year, Asheville was the eighth-seed and led for most of the game against the top-seeded Runnin' Bulldogs before Gardner-Webb rallied to win, 77-65.
The teams split road victories during the year. Asheville held off Gardner-Webb on Jan. 29 in Boiling Springs, 60-59. The Runnin' Bulldogs rallied past the Bulldogs at Justice Center on Feb. 14, 68-65.
