RADFORD, Va. - Shonese Jones scored a game-high 26 points but Radford used a second-half run as the Highlanders held off UNC Asheville 79-67 in Big South Conference women's basketball action Saturday afternoon at Dedmon Center.
Jones led the Bulldogs with 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting, including four of her club's six 3-pointers. Kelli Riles recorded 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, while Lindsey Thompson also finished in double figures for Asheville with 12.
Radford was led by Da'Naria Erwin Spencer with 24 points, while Ashley Buckhannon added 21 points.
The Highlanders (15-12, 9-7 Big South) used a 16-4 run midway through the second half to break open a close contest and take its largest lead, 60-44, with 9:29 to play. The Bulldogs cut the deficit to 10 several occasions, but was unable to get closer.
The first half featured 12 lead changes before Radford went to the break up, 38-35.
UNC Asheville (7-19, 3-12 Big South), which shot 50 percent in the opening 20 minutes, got 20 points from Jones in the period.
Asheville, which shot 45.1 percent, finished with a 39-34 advantage on the glass.
The Highlanders forced 20 turnovers, which they turned into 24 points at the other end.
The Bulldogs stay on the road Monday night as they travel to Big South Conference leader Liberty at 7 p.m.
