JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – In their first trip back to the diamond in almost two weeks the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville fell to the Bucs of ETSU, 9-3, at Thomas Stadium on Wednesday evening in a non-conference midweek matchup.

The Bulldogs scored three runs on seven hits to fall to 15-31 on the season, while the Bucs posted nine runs on nine hits to improve to 28-20 this year.

ETSU also completes the season sweep of the Blue & White, having earned a 20-9 win at Greenwood Field on March 13. The game was also the last non-Big South Conference contest of the season for the Bulldogs, who will close out the year with three-game series against league foes Coastal Carolina and Winthrop.

First baseman Hunter Bryant and rightfielder Todd Joyner each went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Bulldogs, with both players recording home runs in the contest. Freshman hurler Lucas Clarke was credited with the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in three innings of work, falling to 2-4 on the season.

The Bucs’ Clinton Freeman went 3-for-3 at the dish with a game-high four RBI, while teammate Derek Niesman posted three RBI for ETSU on a hit and a sacrifice fly.

Jimmy Nesselt picked up the victory for the Bucs, tossing three perfect innings before being relieved. Nesselt is now 2-1 on the year.

The Bulldogs will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to take on Big South opponent Coastal Carolina in a weekend series. First pitch on Friday is set for noon at Pelican Park.
