ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville women’s basketball teams hits the road Saturday afternoon for a date with Big South rival Gardner-Webb Saturday afternoon at Porter Gym starting at 3 p.m.

Saturday’s game will be broadcast locally on WPEK Radio (880-AM). The game can also be seen for free on the Big South Digital Network under the multimedia tag at

The Bulldogs (9-12, 6-6 BSC) are coming off a disappointing 55-41 loss at Presbyterian College Thursday night. Asheville was as cold as the weather outside as the Bulldogs scored just 14 points in the opening half and suffered through their lowest scoring game of the season.

There’s no time to worry about that game as the Blue & White face another tough league challenge against the Runnin’ Bulldogs (12-8, 7-4 BSC). Gardner-Webb edged Asheville 53-47 at Kimmel Arena back on Dec. 28.

In that game, the Runnin’ Bulldogs jumped out to a 30-15 halftime lead before the Bulldogs roared back to take a four-point lead 43-39. But Gardner-Webb’s inside game was relentless down the stretch and the Runnin’ Bulldogs were able to get the road win. It was their fourth straight win over Asheville.

GWU leads the all-time series 11-7.  The Bulldogs last win came in the 2011-12 season when Asheville defeated the Runnin’ Bulldogs, 74-62 at Kimmel Arena. The Bulldogs last win at Gardner-Webb came three seasons ago when they won, 60-59.

Junior guard Shonese Jones is Asheville’s leading scorer with a 10.1 average, while sophomore guard Paige Love is next at 10.0. Love also leads the team in rebounding with a 5.6 average.
