UNC Asheville will be the No. 8 seed in the upcoming VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Conference Championship this week, and will take on the No. 9 seed Radford at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

 

GAME NOTES:

 

• The Bulldogs are now 10-19 overall and 7-13 in the Big South, with a 7-9 record at home and a 3-10 record on the road. The Bulldogs finished the season dropping eight of their last nine contests.

 

• The 10 wins for Asheville are the most since the 2010-11 season, when the Bulldogs won 12 games. The seven conference victories for the Bulldogs are also to most wins in league play since they went 7-9 during the 2008-09 season.

 

• Sophomore guard Paige Love earned Big South All-Conference Honorable Mention honors for her efforts during the season. She was named the Big South Player of the Week for the games played the week of Jan. 13-19, finishing the season averaging 9.7 points per game and leading the team in rebounding with 149.

 

• Redshirt-Sophomore Leah Wormack currently leads the Big South in free throw percentage with a mark of 85.4 percent, with teammate Brittany Gwyn sitting in fourth place with a mark of 79.8 percent. Wormack is also 42nd in the nation in the category.

 

• Asheville is 10-25 at the Big South Tournament.

 

• Asheville will be the No. 8 seed in the upcoming VisitMyrtleBeach.com Big South Conference Women’s Basketball Championship, and will take on the No. 9 seeded Radford Highlanders. The two teams split the regular season matchups, with Asheville earning a 68-61 victory at Radford and the Highlanders earning a 64-52 win at Kimmel Arena.

• The two teams also met in the opening round of the tournament last season, with the Highlanders earning a 56-39 victory to advance to the next round. This will be the 10th meeting in the Big South Tournament between the two teams.

 

• The Bulldogs have lost six consecutive games in the Big South Championship, with the Blue & White’s last victory coming during the 2006-07 season, when Asheville defeated Radford in the final game to clinch its first Big South Conference Championship in the program’s history.

 

• Junior guard Shonese Jones reached 1,000 points for her career on Saturday against Coastal Carolina, becoming the 14th player in school history to reach that mark. She now has 1,004 points for her career.

 

• Jones finished the season leading the team in points, averaging 10.4 per contest.

 

• Sophomore guard Paige Love led the team in rebounds, averaging 5.1 per contest.

 

• Junior guard Brittany Gwyn tallied a team-high 76 assists on the season.

 

• Ja’Da Brayboy led the team in steals with 38.

 

• Freshman KJ Weaver led the team and was fourth in the Big South in blocks with 46 on the season.

 

• Leah Wormack suffered a hand injury in practice and may or may not be available for the game vs. Radford.
