Former UNC Asheville pitcher Alan DeRatt and outfielder Kevin Mattison enjoyed excellent rookie seasons for their minor league teams. Both of them have been invited to their team’s fall instructional workouts.

DeRatt, drafted by the Colorado Rockies, pitched at Casper of the Frontier League this past summer. He finished with a 2-2 overall record and 3.94 ERA. The Cary native was extremely good down the stretch for the Ghosts. He did not allow a run in seven his last eight appearances. DeRatt had 39 strikeouts in 29.2 innings of work.

In his last five outings, DeRatt did not give up a run, allowing three hits, striking out 13 in 9.1 innings of work.

Mattison was drafted by the Florida Marlins and played for the Jamestown Jammers of the New York Penn League. He helped lead the Jammers to a playoff appearance and a trip to the championship round where they fell to the Batavia Muckdogs.

Mattison finished the year hitting .250 and led Jamestown in stolen bases (14) and triples (6). He had four home runs, 10 doubles and 20 RBI.
