UNC Asheville Wins Third Straight Tournament Title for First Time - UNC Asheville Bulldogs Official Athletics Site

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville rolled to its seventh straight victory and captured the UNC Asheville Volleyball Classic with a 3-0 win over Western Carolina Saturday night at Justice Center. The Bulldogs won the final match of the day, 30-24, 30-13, 30-26.
It was Asheville's third straight tournament victory and improved its record to 9-2. The Bulldogs were led by tournament MVP Elif Unlu. Unlu had seven kills, 12 digs and two blocks in the match against the Lady Catamounts (2-10). The three straight tournament victories marks the first time the UNCA program has ever won three tournaments in a season.
The Bulldogs had a balanced attack against WCU. Talia Ogle and Rose Butler led the Asheville attack with 12 kills each. Ogle also had 12 digs. Allison Lambert, who also made the all-tournament team for UNCA, finished with nine kills and five blocks.
Ellie Talbot led the Lady Catamounts with nine kills and 11 digs. Heather Koontz made the all-tournament team for WCU added seven kills, six digs and two blocks.
"We played pretty well tonight," stated Asheville coach Julie Torbett. "We wanted to improve on our blocking this evening and we did that. Our defense did a good job digging out a lot of balls. We had a very balanced attack as everyone contributed."
UNC Asheville plays at Lipscomb Thursday night, while Western Carolina opens Southern Conference play against Appalachian State at the Ramsey Center starting at 7 p.m.
