Volleyball Roars Past High Point in 3 Games - UNC Asheville Bulldogs Official Athletics Site

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Ashley Wrightenberry had 11 kills and seven blocks to lead homestanding UNC Asheville to a 3-0 Big South Conference volleyball victory over High Point at Justice Center Friday. The Bulldogs won the match 30-23, 30-25, 30-26.
Asheville (17-4, 6-2 BSC) got solid match from Elif Unlu who had a game-high 13 kills and added 13 digs. Allison Lambert contributed 10 kills and three blocks. Setter Amanda Wiles had 42 assists and 10 digs. Krysti Havens sparked the defense with 15 digs.
The Panthers were led by Jamie Kaufman with 10 kills and 10 digs. Jenelle Stouffer led the defense with 14 digs.
"I thought Ashley Wrightenberry enjoyed an outstanding match tonight," commented UNC Asheville head coach Julie Torbett. "We needed to play well in the middle because High Point really hits the ball well.
"We played pretty well against a dangerous High Point team," added Torbett. "We had a great crowd this evening and that gave us some energy. I was really pleased with our consistency throughout the match."
The Bulldogs led throughout the first game as they hit .425. Asheville has a balanced attack with four players with four kills each. The Panthers were hurt by seven attack errors.
In the second game, High Point overcame an early Asheville lead and sprinted ahead 21-19. Kaufman had three kills in the game and two straight to give the Panthers a two-point lead. But after a Bulldog timeout, UNCA roared back with six straight points to take a 25-21 lead. Asheville had three blocks for points during the 6-0 run. The Bulldogs got a kill from Talia Ogle to end the game.
In the third game, Asheville got its blocking going and recoded eight blocks. The Bulldogs jumped out to an 18-12 lead and High Point could get no closer than three the rest of the game.
Asheville will host three-time defending Big South Conference champion Winthrop Sunday afternoon at Justice Center starting at 2 p.m. High Point travels to league foe Birmingham-Southern for a match that will start at 3 p.m. EST.
