ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville men's soccer team hits the road this weekend when it travels to Nashville for a pair of matches. The Bulldogs play at Belmont Friday night and then take on Lipscomb Sunday afternoon.

Asheville is 1-3-0 on the season after a 5-0 defeat to #16 Kentucky Saturday afternoon at home. The Bulldogs have shown some flashes of good play in the first part of the year, especially a 5-0 win over Wofford on Sept. 6. However, Steve Cornish has to deal with incorporating a lot of new players into the line-up plus some nagging injuries.

"We're just not quite at 100 percent right now," declared Cornish. "We have had some injures that have slowed a couple of lads down. Our effort has been quite good and even in the Kentucky matches we played well in spurts against a very good team."

The Bulldogs are looking for a successful road trip this weekend. Asheville tied Belmont, 2-2 at Greenwood Field last season before falling to Lipscomb, 2-1 two days later at home.

"Both Belmont and Lipscomb have improved from last year," stated Cornish. "However, we believe we've improved, as well. We believe both matches should be good tests for our lads."

The Bulldogs are being led in scoring by sophomore midfielder Ian Willmot with three goals. Scott Szymanski has two goals and two assists for six points.

UNC Asheville returns home next week and will host Appalachian State at Greenwood Field on Wednesday, Sept. 20 at 4 p.m.
