ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team hopes to get back on the winning track Friday afternoon when the Bulldogs host High Point in a crucial Big South Conference match. The game at Greenwood Field will start at 4 p.m.
The match was originally scheduled to be played on Saturday but has been moved to Friday.
Asheville (3-4-2, 1-1-2) has struggled recently and has not scored a goal in its last four matches. The Bulldogs are 0-3-1 in those matches. High Point is 3-9 overall but 2-2 in league play. The Panthers are coming off a 2-0 victory over Presbyterian Wednesday night.
"We need to score some goals," commented UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We simply need to start finishing, instead of coming close to scoring. When you don't score, you put a lot of pressure on your defense. We've played pretty good defense in the last two matches but we don't have much to show for it because we haven't scored."
Asheville's defense has been very tough in league play and has only allowed two goals in those four matches. Freshman goalkeeper Veronica Lazar has done a nice job keeping opponents at bay along with a solid defense led by Sara Pahl and Kate Barrow.
The Bulldogs have a pretty good break after the High Point match and don't play again until Sunday, Oct. 15 when they host VMI at Greenwood Field. However, that will be Asheville's last home match. The Bulldogs finish the regular season with four straight road matches.
