Volleyball Win Streak Ends at Winthrop - UNC Asheville Bulldogs Official Athletics Site

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Winthrop placed three hitters in double-figures in kills and out-hit UNC Asheville .365 to .043 to win its 41st consecutive Big South victory 30-25, 30-15, 30-18 Friday night.
Shannon Sitzman had 14 kills, Tori Grafeman had 11 kills, and Taryn Surbaugh added 10 kills as the Eagles (19-2, 4-0 Big South) continued their dominance in conference play. Winthrop has not lost to a Big South opponent since Nov. 13, 2003.
Elif Unlu led the Bulldogs (6-13, 4-1 Big South) with 10 kills while Raquel Miotto added 15 digs. The loss snapped a four-match winning streak for the Bulldogs.
As a team. Asheville had only 24 kills in the three games and made 20 attacking errors. Winthrop had seven blocks and five service aces while hitting .365 with 53 kills and only 15 errors in 104 attacks.
The Bulldogs will have a couple of days off for fall break before returning home on Oct. 13, to face Coastal Carolina. Admission to the Coastal match will be free with a non-perishable food donation.
