ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Elif Unlu had a match-high 16 kills and Raquel Miotto had a match-high 25 digs as UNC Asheville defeated Charleston Southern 30-25, 30-15, 30-28 in Big South volleyball action at the Justice Center on Sunday afternoon.

Asheville (8-13, 6-1 Big South) remained unbeaten at home in conference play getting solid performances from it middle attack. Lauren Ficker and Ashley Wrightenberry each had nine kills and combined for six blocks on the match. Alysha Greer had her second strong match of the weekend posting seven kills, one error, on 11 attacks for a .545 attack percentage.

CSU (5-15, 0-7 Big South) was led by Jenni Shepherd and Jillian Worby who each had nine kills. Worby added 12 digs to lead the Bucs defensively.

The Bucs began the match with three-straight hitting errors as the Bulldogs built a 4-1 lead. Asheville would maintain the three point lead until 9-6 when it went on a 7-2 run to lead 16-8 and force a CSU timeout. The Dogs lead 26-19 before CSU scored five-straight points to pull to within 26-24, but a kill by Unlu ended the run and Asheville went on to the 30-25 win.

In game two, the Bulldogs jumped on top 7-1 only to see the Bucs fight back and tie the game at 11. CSU took a 12-11 lead on a kill by Worby but the lead was short lived. A service error tied the game at 12 and Asheville scored seven-straight points off the serve of Bridgett Holliday. The Dogs took 19 of the final 22 points to win 30-15 and take a 2-0 lead into intermission.

Game three was the best of the match as both teams sided out effectively. The game was tied seven times until 20-20. Asheville went ahead for good on a service error and an attack error by CSU. A kill by Kaitlyn McDaniel gave Asheville its largest lead of the third game 28-24. CSU battled back again scoring three points in a row to pull to 28-27. Unlu got the last two kills of the match to give the Bulldogs the 30-28 victory and the sweep.

Asheville out-hit CSU .274 to .097 in the match. Both teams had four aces and nine service errors. The Bulldogs out-dug the Bucs 45-40 and had a 6-3 blocking advantage.

The Bulldogs will face conference leader Winthrop on Friday, Oct. 20, in a 7 p.m. match at the Justice Center. The match will be broadcast on uncabulldogs.com as well has be video streamed on bigsouthsports.com.
