ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Robyn Busha scored midway through the first half and that goal stood up as UNC Asheville edged High Point, 1-0 in women's soccer action at Greenwood Field Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs improved their record to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1-2 in the Big South. The victory snapped a five-game winless streak for Asheville. The Panthers dropped to 3-10 overall and 2-3 in the BSC. The loss broke a two-game HPU winning streak.
"We played pretty well today against a good team in High Point," stated Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We were glad to get a goal and get a lead and then our defense was solid in the second half."
The only goal came at the 32:56 mark of the first half. Lauren Wingo sent a pass to Busha who then hit a shot from 20 yards out for her fifth goal of the season.
High Point's best opportunity came with three minutes left when Traci Anderson hit the cross bar on a shot from five yards out.
Bulldog goalkeeper Veronica Lazar stopped four Panther shots to earn her third shutout of the season.
UNC Asheville plays next at home against VMI on Sunday, Oct. 15th at 2 p.m. High Point hosts Winthrop Wednesday (Oct. 11) at 7 p.m.
