LYNCHBURG, VA. - Liberty scored a goal in each half and that was enough for the Flames to down UNC Asheville, 2-0 in Big South men's soccer action at Liberty Soccer Stadium Saturday night.
The Bulldogs fell to 4-10-0 with the loss and 1-4-0 in the Big South Conference. Liberty improves to 5-5 overall and 3-3 in the league.
Toby Lewis scored for the Flames in 18th minute when he scored off a rebound from 18 yards out.
Liberty controlled play in the first half as it outshot the Bulldogs, 9-3. Asheville picked up the pace in the second half and got seven shots on goal but just could not get the equalizer.
The Flames sealed the victory in the 66th minute when Mike Gelatt scored his first goal of the year off a corner kick.
Nathan Neal, Scott Szymanski and Ryan Haupt all had two shots each for the Bulldogs.
UNC Asheville plays next at ACC power Clemson Wednesday night starting at 7 p.m.
