ASHEVILLE, N.C.—The UNC Asheville women's tennis team earned their first Big South Conference victory when they defeated the Radford Highlanders, 6-1, at the Asheville Racquet Club on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs gained the early 1-0 lead when they took the doubles competition. No. 1 seeded Hannah Francisco and Kylee Shipley topped Natalie Sayer and Meili Martin, 6-3. Asheville fell on court No. 2 when Hunter Hall and Lauren Watson-Steele lost to Drousile Dzeubou and Claire Nguyen, 6-3. The Bulldogs No. 3 pairing of Christin Louw and Emily Sidor clinched the doubles point by downing Radford's Yulia Popova and Karlie Pope.

The Highlanders' No. 1 Dzeubou began the singles competition by defeating Francisco, 7-5, 6-2. The Bulldogs then won the remainder of the singles matches on court No. 2-6. No. 2 Watson-Steele rallied to beat Nguyen, 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. No. 3 Shipley then took a three setter against Sayer, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. No. 4 Louw bested Martin, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5. Court No. 5 saw Hall defeat Pope in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. The No. 6 seeded freshman Sidor also won in straight sets, only dropping one game in her 6-0, 6-1, triumph over Popova.
